Commonwealth Day of Play Resources

Read the Governor's press release, "Governor Glenn Youngkin Declares Commonwealth 'Day of Play'"

The first-ever Commonwealth Day of Play on Saturday, August 9, 2025, was a statewide celebration designed to bring classic play back into children’s lives. From sack races to getting muddy and running wild with friends, Virginians came together to revive the joy of field day fun and community spirit.

While the official day has passed, the resources below remain available for parks, schools, businesses, neighborhoods, and families who want to host their own Day of Play. It’s never too late to unplug, head outside, and bring back the joy of childhood play.

Resources you can use year-round to help spread the word, plan your event, and bring back the joy of unplugged, outdoor fun:

Let’s reclaim childhood—unplug, go outside, and play.
