Created by Governor Kaine in July 2006, the Health Reform Commission is charged with improving access to competent, affordable healthcare for all Virginians.
More specifically, the commission works to identify and implement national best practices at the state level with an emphasis on access, quality, and safety of care; the commission will also address long-term care and affordability. It will work closely with the General Assembly’s Joint Commission on Health Care and the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC), and work to foster cooperation between the Executive and Legislative branches on these important healthcare issues.
The commission holds public meetings to allow for citizen participation in its work, and will issue a final report to the Governor by September 2007.
UPDATE: The full commission has completed reviewing all public comments and has released its final report.
